Almost everyone comes into contact with grain products making it one of the most extensive industries. Hence it is critical to assure its quality in order to compete in the market. Only with proper sampling, could proper quality control in grain products be done especially the ineffectiveness of testing for imperfections for every kernel in a barge.
Grain Grading
‘Good’ grain is based on specific criteria, determined by the USDA: number of insects, rock, glass. and other foreign material in the grain. Too many insects result in the grain sample being labelled ‘infested’ and rejected. Physical abnormalities like heat, mold damage, or sour smell classify the grain as ‘inferior’. After inspection, the grain is given a grade of 1-5 and sent to the lab for further analysis.
Grain Testing
The sample will be sent to a laboratory where it will be grinded to appropriate FGIS specifications before it is tested for its actual enemy: mycotoxins. They are cancerous fungus that can produce toxins that severely affect animals and humans. Two common mycotoxins are Deoxynivalenol (DON) and Aflatoxin.
Haes Bros provides you the means to proper testing, ensuring these invisible mycotoxins won’t reach consumers. Our tests are safer, faster, and less costly than competitors and can analyze corn gluten meal, a sample most other competitors cannot.
